This first major collection of work by the Nigerian-born writer Ogali includes short fiction, plays, and journalistic essays. Though written in English, and with abundant references to European philosophy and literature, the pieces remain rooted in the traditional values of Ogali's native culture. Common to many of them is a strong humanism, an incisive depiction of deception and corruption, and a sharp critique of Western individualism and notions of romantic love.
