DESCRIPTION

In this absorbing and revealing memoir, Henry Denham recalls his efforts to seek enemy intelligence for Britain while serving as a naval attache in Stockholm from 1941-1945. Despite Sweden's neutrality during World War II, the country nonetheless provided transit routes for refugees from German prisoner of war camps, served as a sentry post for Hitler's Europe, and manufactured the specials steel ball bearings crucial to the Allied war effort. Yet a number of influential Swedish men and women had pro-German sympathies, and in spite of the Swedish public's bitter feelings, its government felt compelled to allow German troops to use its railways to consolidate their grip on Norway.

Inside the Nazi Ring offers a vivid depiction of the people and events instrumental in furthering—and impeding—Allied interests in Sweden. The author provides fascinating accounts of eyewitness meetings with Gestapo agents, member s of the Norweigian unerground, and other key people and events.
